     After two solo albums of varying success, Waters didn’t release anything for five years before Amused To Death, and it’s maybe because of this break that instead of spitting missives in the way of his ex-Floyd bandmates Dave Gilmour and Nick Mason, he actually sat down and wrote a solid piece of work. From the genuinely haunting opener, ‘The Ballad of Bill Hubbard’ - which features a heartbreaking interview from a WW1 solider, forced to abandon a wounded, barely-alive Bill Hubbard in no-man’s land, to the bluesy swagger of the ‘What God Wants’ trilogy, the record sets Waters’ stall out from the off - not afraid to pull at heart strings, or pummel them into cartoonish oblivion, he has a way around both.

LITTLE DRUMMER BOY...Matt Cameron

        More than any other drummer, Matt Cameron laid the rhythmic foundation for the Nineties rock revolution, reconciling proggy technicality with overwhelming force. He aptly characterized his rotary-blade rhythms on the 1991 Soundgarden track "Jesus Christ Pose" as "a pure assault of the senses," but that efficient brutality wasn't necessarily characteristic of Cameron's work with the band – his drumming on  Superunknown  is as thoughtful as it is heavy, from the fluid asymmetry of "Spoonman" to the unshakeable backbeat of "Fell on Black Days." Twenty years after its release, Dave Grohl was  still raving , "Nobody played drums like Matt."   GRAVY TRAIN  Gravy Train  (Vertigo,1970) - Progressive rock       Their debut shows Gravy Train as a brave and daring underground band, heavily influenced by and derivative of other prog/hard acts of the time, yet actually trying to push the boundaries forward. Unfortunately, since the album bombed, the guys preferred to dump all the experimentation of these songs in favour of a smoother, more commercial sound later on, which totally destroyed their idiosyncrasy and forever nailed them as second-rate good-for-nothings.
