ONCE UPON A TIME...Live:The Island Years

Слика
ANTHRAX  Live:The Island Years  (Megaforce/Island,1994) - Thrash metal       Just like with Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth etcetera etcetera, the Anthrax fans would never see a regular full length live album during the eighties. Thrash bands just didn’t do that yet. Vinyl bootlegs were all around of course but you never knew what they’d sound like and from time to time you just tried one or two, just to have some live stuff and more than half the time you'd be utterly disappointed by the quality of such things. But releasing this officially, two years after Belladonna had left Anthrax, was flogging a dead horse. Cheap cashing in even, since the sound quality of this release is hardly acceptable. ONCE UPON A TIME...Kingdom Come

Слика
SIR LORD BALTIMORE  Kingdom Come  (Mercury,1970) - Hard rock       These Brooklyn cult heroes arguably recorded America’s first bona fide heavy metal album. And while they enjoyed precious little recognition in their day, Sir Lord Baltimore have since been rediscovered and justifiably championed by modern generations of metal-heads and stoner rockers. TRACKLIST : Kingdom Come                        I Got A Woman                        Hell Hound                        Helium Head (I Got A Love)                        Ain't Got Hung On You                        Master Heartache                        Hard Rain Fallin'                        Lady Of Fire                        Lake Isle Of Innersfree                        Pumped Up    https://www.sendspace.com/file/0wbjkn

ONCE UPON A TIME...Very 'Eavy,Very 'Umble

Слика
URIAH HEEP  Very 'Eavy...Very 'Umble  (Vertigo,1970) - Hard rock       Another British band combining roaring guitars with forceful organs, this quintet arrived a little after Deep Purple. Simply titled 'Uriah Heep' in the U.S., the album showcased David Byron’s operatic vocals on dramatic head-bangers like “Gypsy” and “Bird of Prey.” TRACKLIST : Gypsy                        Walking In Your Shadow                        Come Away Melinda                        Lucy Blues                        Dreammare                        Real Turned On                        I'll Keep On Trying                        Wake Up (See Your Sights) https://www.sendspace.com/file/mr4vpn

ONCE UPON A TIME...Vincebus Eruptum

Слика
BLUE CHEER  Vincebus Eruptum  (Philips,1968) - Hard rock       Blue Cheer is the only band with a legitimate case for launching heavy metal prior to 1970. This project's devastating assault redefined musical aggression, distortion and deafening volume. TV host Steve Allen said it best once when he introduced the band: “Ladies and gentlemen, Blue Cheer. Run for your lives!” TRACKLIST : Summertime Blues                        Rock Me Baby                        Doctor Please                        Out Of Focus                        Parchment Farm                        Second Time Around https://www.sendspace.com/file/lg3rzd

ONCE UPON A TIME...Death Penalty

Слика
WITCHFINDER GENERAL  Death Penalty  (Heavy Metal Records,1982) - NWOBHM        At a time when most NWOBHM bands were cutting loose and speeding up, fueled by the energetic example supplied by Judas Priest and Motorhead, the four young men in Witchfinder General had time for just one inspirational source: Black Sabbath. Even they could gallop now and then (see “Free Country” and “No Stayer”), but everything else on 1982’s charmingly unsophisticated ‘Death Penalty’ is grinding, groaning, sloth-footed doom, culminating in the monstrously riffed number bearing the band’s name. TRACKLIST : Invisible Hate                        Free Country                        Death Penalty                        No Stayer                        Witchfinder General                        Burning A Sinner                        RIP https://www.sendspace.com/file/u1rqq3

ONCE UPON A TIME...The Nightcomers

Слика
HOLOCAUST  The Nightcomers  (Phoenix,1981) - NWOBHM       Another band whose works would later benefit from Metallica’s doting patronage, Holocaust hailed from Edinburgh, and, after a few years honing their talents on the local pub scene, they dispensed one of the NWOBHM’s most memorable riff-fests in 1981’s ‘The Nightcomers.’ Most serious metal fans will probably already recognize the sinister staccatos of “Death or Glory,” but this excellent long-player also boasts a bunch of stirring head-banger anthems like “Smokin’ Valves” and “Heavy Metal Mania,” plus the title track’s evocative, galloping doom. TRACKLIST : Smokin' Valves                        Death Or Glory                        Come On Back                        Mavrock                        It Don't Matter To Me                        Cryin' Shame                        Heavy Metal Mania                        Push It Around                        The Nightcomers https://www.sendspace.com/file/hr6a4w

BASS CULTURE.....Joey Vera

Слика
Joey Vera is best known for holding down the spot in Armored Saint since 1982. His talents help give the band their anthemic style with powerful creativity and at other times, the perfect restraint with his rumbling tone being one of the best in the biz. He’s also served as Fates Warning’s bassist since 1997, showing off his progressive side with artful fills and complex rhythms and, since 2019, he's a part of legendary metal outfit Mercyful Fate. ONCE UPON A TIME...Starcastle

Слика
STARCASTLE  Starcastle  (Epic,1976) - Progressive rock       During 1976, Progressive rock was at an all time high. Acts such as  Yes  and  Rush  had done well, while out of Illinois, another emergence came to be, and thus we enter  Starcastle . They released this album in early 1976. It had a great response, however, many individuals seemed to think Starcastle was simply a Yes clone. After listening to  Fragile , I do hear the similarities. With that said, it does not change the outlook on a fantastic, and often overlooked treasure of an album. ONCE UPON A TIME...Rockpommel's Land

Слика
GROBSCHNITT  Rockpommel's Land  (Brain,1977) - Prog/Symphonic rock       This is certainly one of the most brilliant prog recordings ever. Based on a very captivating child-like concept, GROBSCHNITT take you clearly into their (Ernie's) own world via a winged like loyal creature named Maraboo. This recording shows GROBSCHNITT's amazing musicianship and song writing skills... The music is lush and runs nicely along as each song builds on each another. This is an essential recording and needs to be listened to without any distractions loud! In many ways I get a strong YES-like feel to it, but of course never sounding to close to YES. ONCE UPON A TIME...A Jug Of Love

Слика
MIGHTY BABY A Jug Of Love  (Blue Horizon,1971) - Prog/Psychedelic rock        The Melody Maker review of the time said the album was 'so laid-back that the band must have been floating a couple of feet above the studio floor when they recorded it', a notion supported by the sombre cover image of five serious-looking hippies sitting cross-legged on a Persian carpet. It is indeed a very ethereal record, but the sheer musicianship on offer means that the songs have a texture that repays constant listening. It might wash over you the first couple of times - but, like all good records, when it starts to stick, it'll stick forever. TRACKLIST : Jug Of Love                        The Happiest Man In The Carnival                        Keep On Juggin'                        Virgin Spring                        Tasting The Life                        Slipstreams https://www.sendspace.com/file/tt08h0

ONCE UPON A TIME...Shadow Of The Moon

Слика
BLACKMORE'S NIGHT  Shadow Of The Moon  (Edel,1997) - Neo mediavel/Folk       Many were wondering what Ritchie Blackmore would do next following his winding up of Rainbow, the free spirited guitarist never afraid of going where his muse lead him.       With their shared love of Renaissance music, it was not much of a stretch for the legend to delve deeper into that world with his partner Candice Night and from this joining of names Blackmore’s Night sprung, ready to roll back the years to a mystic past. TRACKLIST : Shadow Of The Moon                     The Clock Ticks On                     Be Mine Tonight                     Play Minstrel Play                     Ocean Gypsy                     Minstrel Hall                     Magical World                     Writing On The Wall                     Renaissance Faire                     Memmingen                     No Second Chance                     Mond Tanz                     Spirit Of The Sea                     Greensle

ONCE UPON A TIME...L'Araignee-Mal

Слика
ATOLL  L'Araignee-Mal  (Eurodisc,1975) - Symphonic prog       One of the best French progressive bands of all time who blended all the right elements. The music of ATOLL is complex, very elaborate and yet beautiful and delicate. Arrangements are sophisticated yet melodic and powerful. Their music exudes a certain degree of that of YES and GENESIS yet still remaining characteristically French and original. "L'Araignee-Mal" is a masterpiece and in relation to their debut "Musiciens Magicians" works slightly more on the fusion elements. Album contains lots of great symphonic keyboard work with the addition of violin on this album which sounds great when mixed with their guitar, bass and drum interplay. Side B of this album is consumed by the 1 epic title album track which is truly wonderful. TRACKLIST : Le Photographe Exorciste                        Cazotte No.1                        Le Voleur D'Extase                        L'Araignee-Mal :

ONCE UPON A TIME...The Perfect Release

Слика
ANNETTE PEACOCK  The Perfect Release  (Aura,1979) - Jazz rock       Released in 1979, this prophetic stew of spoken word, jazz, and funk from Annette Peacock was wildly ahead of its time and is still salient today. Her unflinching examinations of capitalism, sex, religion, et al. are underscored by lengthy, gorgeous grooves. Peacock wields her voice with wild abandon, at times delivering a melody like a Beat poet while other times wailing out of her throat like a saxophone, hitting blue notes as she pleases.   TRACKLIST : Love's Out To Lunch                        Solar Systems                        American Sport                        A Loss Of Consciousness                        Rubber Hunger                        The Succubus                        Survival https://www.sendspace.com/file/2ypbdm

GUITAR WOLF...Muddy Waters

Слика
Six-time Grammy winner McKinley Morganfield ruled the Chicago blues scene from the mid 1940s on. Moving from Clarksdale, Mississippi in 1941 and switching from acoustic to  electric guitar  two years later, Morganfield (now Muddy Waters) assembled a band of the finest players in town, including Little Walter (harmonica), Otis Spann (piano) and Jimmy Rogers (guitar).        Muddy was rarely seen without his red  Fender Telecaster , on which he mostly played slide and the occasional riff, but his legend and musical influence remain almost unequalled. As B.B. King put it, “It’s going to be years before people realise how great his contribution was to American music.” The London Muddy Waters Sessions Chess,1972 https://www.sendspace.com/file/6yubwh

ONCE UPON A TIME...Sunburst Finish

Слика
BE-BOP DELUXE  Sunburst Finish  (Harvest,1976) - Art rock        Be-Bop Deluxe released Sunburst Finish, their third album, in 1976. Joined by new band member Andy Clark on keyboards, the album represents a near-perfect amalgam of melodic and engagingly catchy songwriting and progressive and rock influences. Its creative uniqueness representing a further development and maturing of the musical vision of songwriter, guitarist extraordinary, and vocalist, Bill Nelson. It also contained the band’s most successful single, Ships In The Night, which reached 23 in the UK Singles Chart. It is also a very well-produced album with the production shared between Bill Nelson and John Leckie. TRACKLIST : Fair Exchange                        Heavenly Homes                        Ships In The Night                        Crying To The Sky                        Sleep That Burns                        Beauty Secrets                        Life In The Air Age                        Like An Old Blues

ONCE UPON A TIME...Grand Hotel

Слика
PROCOL HARUM  Grand Hotel  (Chrysalis,1973) - Progressive rock       At this stage, Procol Harum was essentially a trio of Brooker, Reid and B.J. Wilson (who continues to make a case for himself as one of rock’s most underrated drummers). The remaining members are more or less hired hands, but as the band’s last two albums proved, more hands stirring the pot didn’t produce better results.  Grand Hotel  benefits from a consistent vision, some very strong material and Brooker’s increasingly steady hand as an arranger. You’ll want to live in this album for a little while at least if you enjoy the music of Procol Harum and may even make a second home of it, when you tire from the sea. TRACKLIST . ONCE UPON A TIME...Be Good To Yourself At Least Once A Day

Слика
MAN  Be Good To Yourself At Least Once A Day  (UA,1972) - Progressive rock       Be Good To Yourself At Least Once A Day is a bit of classic in the Man catalogue, not least because it contains the classics C’mon and Bananas which have been live favourites since this release in 1972. The album only contains four tracks so there’s ample opportunity for the band to stretch out on the Psychedelic west coast influenced jams much like they do live. ONCE UPON A TIME...Planets

Слика
ELOY  Planets  (EMI Electrola,1981) - Progressive rock       Eloy's 1981 album is an incredible fusion of two marvelous genres, resulting in symphonic space rock- a fantastic blend. Similar to Yes's Drama, one can hear the 1980s flavor grabbing a hold of the music, but only coloring it just a bit. It is like some intergalactic medieval world- sword and space ships, queens and quasars, extraterrestrials and excommunications...portcullises and planets. The swirling keyboards as the most fascinating aspect- they are the centerpiece that refuses to remain in the center.
