ONCE UPON A TIME...No Man's Land

Слика
HOLOCAUST  No Man's Land  (Phoenix,1984) - NWOBHM       After a short hiatus, John Mortimer (guitar) reformed the band and recorded some newly written material, titling the resulting album No Man’s Land (1984).  At worst, it’s a perfunctory, half hearted run through familiar Holocaust tropes.  At best it’s confirmation that it was time for a break. ONCE UPON A TIME...Fistful Of Metal

Слика
ANTHRAX  Fistful Of Metal  (Megaforce, 1983) - Thrash metal         “Fistful of Metal” may not be the *absolute* essential album of the genre or the band, but it’s as worthy of a listen as anything else Anthrax or The Big 4 (Slayer, Metallica, Megadeath, Judas Priest) has released. There are no bad songs, so I won’t pick any standouts, and it’s a shame the band doesn’t play more from it. BUT You can always catch Neil’s band Deathriders, who perform several songs from it, and you can still hear the same power in his voice today, if not even stronger. Still a classic, and completely underrated. TRACKLIST : Deathrider                        Metal Thrashing Mad                        I'm Eighteen                        Panic               ...

BASS CULTURE...Eddie Jackson

Слика
Bands are like a team sport and complementing the other’s talents ultimately yields the best results. Queensryche have been responsible for making huge strides in the early progressive metal genre and Eddie Jackson’s contributions are irreplaceable. His bass playing works in and out of melodies, both vocal and guitar, and ‘Ed Bass’ also serves as a key backing singer. ONCE UPON A TIME...Back Up Against The Wall

Слика
ATLANTA RHYTHM SECTION Back Up Against The Wall (Decca,1973) - Southern rock        Originally hired as an engineering assistant at Studio One, Ronnie Hammond had also provided back-up vocals on many of the group's recording sessions. With those credentials (and as the owner of a great voice), he was subsequently brought in as Justo's replacement.  In spite of the personnel shake-up,1972's Buddy Buie produced "Back Up Against the Wall" proved more consistent and rock-oriented than the debut. Exemplified by tracks like 'Cold Turkey Tenn.', their cover of Joe South's 'Redneck' and the boogie rock title track, Hammond's likeable voice proved a nice match for the band's blend of pop, blues and Southern rock moves. While nothing here was particularly original, the performances were all professional and worth a couple of spins. TRACKLIST : Wrong                     Cold Turkey,Tenn.     ...

GUITAR WOLF...Randy Rhoads

Слика
Randy Rhoads was just 25 when he lost his life in a plane crash in 1982 but he left quite the legacy. He was supremely gifted, book smart but not ostentatiously so, and would deftly introduce the highfalutin grandeur of classical music into popular metal compositions.       He would pioneer the asymmetrical V, working with Grover Jackson on what, posthumously, would become on of the most popular metal guitar designs ever. And more than this, the hot-shot guitarist from Quiet Riot would be the one chiefly responsible for resurrecting Ozzy Osbourne’s career after his acrimonious departure from Black Sabbath. In Rhoads, Osbourne found his white knight. QUIET RIOT Quiet Riot CBS Sony,1978 https://www.sendspace.com/file/925v6d

DON'T SHOOT ME...Dick Sims

Слика
Keyboardist Dick Sims backed up two of the greatest classic rockers of all times, and a dozen others that were pretty dang good in his 60 years.      Before working for Clapton, Sims worked with  Bob Seger . He's heard on Seger's 'Back in '72' album, which includes the timeless hit 'Turn the Page.' Along with Jamie Oldaker and Carl Radle, Sims help develop what would become known as the 'Tulsa Sound.'       What was supposed to be a single tour turned into an almost 10 year run with Clapton. His style helped shape Clapton's sound on albums like '461 Ocean Boulevard' and 'Slowhand.' One can hear his work on songs like 'I Shot the Sheriff' and 'Wonderful Tonight.'
