JUNIPHER GREENE Communication  (ON,1973) - Progressive rock


     After a good debute 2 years earlier, tha band that was a quintet , remains on this album a trio, but they manage to pull a realy solid heavy prog album all the way. reminescent of Host, Uriah Heep with some psychedelic touches, Communication was for many a step down from the debute, I wonder why because to me was a nice surprice and a pleasent listning. The title track for instance is excellent, nearly 13 min of great musicianship and good ideas , like it was in the glory days of prog. A fairly good album, while is nothing groundbreaking or innovative here, this second and aswell their swansong worth to be investigated.

        More than any other drummer, Matt Cameron laid the rhythmic foundation for the Nineties rock revolution, reconciling proggy technicality with overwhelming force. He aptly characterized his rotary-blade rhythms on the 1991 Soundgarden track "Jesus Christ Pose" as "a pure assault of the senses," but that efficient brutality wasn't necessarily characteristic of Cameron's work with the band – his drumming on  Superunknown  is as thoughtful as it is heavy, from the fluid asymmetry of "Spoonman" to the unshakeable backbeat of "Fell on Black Days." Twenty years after its release, Dave Grohl was  still raving , "Nobody played drums like Matt."   GRAVY TRAIN  Gravy Train  (Vertigo,1970) - Progressive rock       Their debut shows Gravy Train as a brave and daring underground band, heavily influenced by and derivative of other prog/hard acts of the time, yet actually trying to push the boundaries forward. Unfortunately, since the album bombed, the guys preferred to dump all the experimentation of these songs in favour of a smoother, more commercial sound later on, which totally destroyed their idiosyncrasy and forever nailed them as second-rate good-for-nothings.
