     Oh Venom... So many different live albums to listen to, and pretty much all of them sound like the Show was taped and recorded in a filthy public toilet rather than at the legendary Hammersmith Odeon. This type of quantity over quality mentality on the part of the band is probably more than enough to frustrate most dedicated fans
     Through the negativity, there are some bright spots on the album. Mantas’s soloing on “Seven Gales of Hell” is quite good because it breaks through the dirge of the album. In addition, Cronus’s vocals can actually be heard on some parts of the song. So, I should say that this is the best song on the album by default but the song does drag on a bit too long. The spoken part on “In Nomine Santanas” is done well and there is a good thrash part right after that bit. However, for top song, I am drawn to “Warhead.” Cronus introduces the song with plenty of enthusiasm and his screams at the beginning are just scary, like it should be. Maybe because it’s a slow song in Venom terms but it just clicks with me. While I have always known what Venom were capable of, the fact that it is better heard on it makes all the difference. Maybe the production team were awake when they recorded this. Things do end on a positive note as “Bloodlust” closes out the album very well indeed.

  DAVID ACKLES  American Gothic  (Elektra,1972) - Rock/Americana       A former Vaudeville performer, Illinois-born Ackles was hired by Elektra Records in the mid-1960s as a paid songwriter, a job that ultimately landed him a five-record deal that would yield this Bernie Taupin produced album, among three others.   ANDWELLA  World's End  (Reflection,1970) - Psychedelic rock       Following the break-up of Belfast psych-blues trio The Method, teenage singer-songwriter David Lewis moved to London, formed Andwellas Dream and signed to CBS. Though their roots show with a fondness for Cream-like workouts, debut album Love And Poetry (1969) shows an emerging pastoral, psych-pop side, with standouts The Days Grew Longer For Love and Midday Sun.       After a move to Reflection Records, World’s End followed in 1970. It sounds like a lot of living was done in the interim – the grooves are deeper, the guitars stingier, the writing more worldly.   MICK FLEETWOOD'S ZOO  I'm Not Me  (RCA,1983) - Rock        The story behind Mick Fleetwood’s 1983  I’m Not Me  is well known. It was his second “solo” album for RCA Records, but everyone, especially Fleetwood, knew it was a band effort. Fleetwood’s name was the draw, but The Zoo was a fully formed ensemble that had been playing together for a year. This occurred because Fleetwood wanted a real group and not an album put out by studio musicians who’d come by, do their parts, and ride off to other projects.        The principal members of the Zoo were Fleetwood on drums, guitarist/singers Billy Burnette and Steve Ross, and bassist/singer George Hawkins. (Hawkins had appeared on Fleetwood’s previous release,  The Visitor ). As Burnette, Hawkins, and Ross shared lead vocal duties and co-wrote many of the songs, the band’s structure was easily compared to that of Fleetwood Mac.
