SUGARLOAF  Spaceship Earth  (Liberty,1971) - Prog/Psychedelic rock

     This is SUGARLOAF's second album released in 1971. The big change is the addition of vocalist and guitarist Bob Yeazel and this was a significant move as he composed almost everything on this album. The debut certainly had it's share of cover songs so i'm sure he was brought in to create some original material. There's a completely different vibe to this record compared to the debut where we got a lot of jamming. Shorter tracks here with almost a countryish / West coast thing happening.

        More than any other drummer, Matt Cameron laid the rhythmic foundation for the Nineties rock revolution, reconciling proggy technicality with overwhelming force. He aptly characterized his rotary-blade rhythms on the 1991 Soundgarden track "Jesus Christ Pose" as "a pure assault of the senses," but that efficient brutality wasn't necessarily characteristic of Cameron's work with the band – his drumming on  Superunknown  is as thoughtful as it is heavy, from the fluid asymmetry of "Spoonman" to the unshakeable backbeat of "Fell on Black Days." Twenty years after its release, Dave Grohl was  still raving , "Nobody played drums like Matt."         A virtuosic American heavy metal and hard rock guitarist, Paul Gilbert is best known as the ace shredder and co-founder of  Mr. Big , and as a member of Los Angeles-based metallers  Racer X . He launched a solo career in 1996, and has since issued a slew of acclaimed albums.  He has also collaborated with fellow six-string wizards  Eric Johnson ,  Joe Satriani , and  Steve Vai .   GRAVY TRAIN  Gravy Train  (Vertigo,1970) - Progressive rock       Their debut shows Gravy Train as a brave and daring underground band, heavily influenced by and derivative of other prog/hard acts of the time, yet actually trying to push the boundaries forward. Unfortunately, since the album bombed, the guys preferred to dump all the experimentation of these songs in favour of a smoother, more commercial sound later on, which totally destroyed their idiosyncrasy and forever nailed them as second-rate good-for-nothings.
