ONCE UPON A TIME.....Hi Fi

Слика
WALTER EGAN  Hi Fi  (Columbia,1979) - Pop rock       A little different from his two previous albums, Walter Egan plays the guitar like Tom Petty and sings like Moon Martin ...Some good tracks also included :  I Can't Wait,  Man B. Goode,  Love at Last... TRACKLIST : I Can't Wait                     That's That                     Little Miss It's You                     Man B. ONCE UPON A TIME.....Love/Action

Слика
SNIFF'N'THE TEARS  Love/Action  (Chiswick,1981) - Pop rock       The ten songs on Love/Action were written by the group’s songwriter-in-chief Paul Roberts. He led a band that featured new drummer Jamie Lane, bassist    Nick South, guitarist Les Davidson and keyboardist Mike Taylor.    Producing the album was Mike Howlett.       When Love/Action was released in 1981 it was very different to their debut album Fickle Heart which Mike Howlett had produced. That was just three years earlier, but music had changed and so had production values. He had produced a slick and polished album of pop-rock that featured an early eighties sound. This won over critics and Love/Action which was released to plaudits and praise.         Sadly, when Love/Action was released by Chiswick Records in 1981 it failed to trouble the charts. Neither did the lead single That Final Love nor the followup The Driving Beat. It was hugely disappointing. TRACKLIST : The Driving Beat                        Put Y

ONCE UPON A TIME.....Warrior

Слика
SCANDAL  Warrior  (Columbia,1984) - AOR         Scandal's debut album won massive acceptance from the American mainstream quickly elevating them to pop star status, a position enhanced by the allure of vocalist Patty Smyth and her smokey voice. Behind the scenes however the pressure was enormous, with record company interference; inter-band discourse and creative tensions aplenty.      Based in New York, the band was a well honed combo of respected players all with a story to tell and a point to make. Guitarist Zack Smith was the perfect foil for Patty, lending a winning call and response buff to the tracks and helping to drive the album to platinum sales and beyond. Lead off track and first single, 'The Warrior' (written by Nick Gilder and Holy Knight) was a top ten hit, helping to define the band's style and potential reach.      Despite the behind the scenes difficulties 'Warrior' triumphed as a resolutely consummate work, neatly honing in on the radio-fri

ONCE UPON A TIME.....Skinny Boy

Слика
ROBERT LAMM  Skinny Boy  (Columbia,1974) - Rock       At the time of the release of Robert Lamm's debut solo album, Skinny Boy, in 1974, it was easy to think that the singer/songwriter/pianist intended to launch a solo career, even though no announcement was ever made that he was leaving  Chicago . The group was at the peak of its popularity at the time, having recently released the third of five consecutive number one albums,  Chicago VII . But Lamm, who had written most of its early hits, was facing increasing competition from other writers in the band. And Skinny Boy, though its title song (also the album's single) had appeared on  Chicago VII , was a departure from the group's sound, especially in that it entirely eschewed the use of a horn section (though  Chicago  guitarist  Terry Kath  was all over it). The music was identifiably Lamm's in its mixture of  Beatles -style pop/rock with elements of Latin, funk, and gospel, all cued to his percussive piano playing.

ONCE UPON A TIME...Broken Hearted

Слика
JIGSAW  Broken Hearted  (BASF,1973) - Pop rock       This is the first "proper" Jigsaw record, meaning the first one that features anything close to the sound they became famous for later in the decade. None of the songs here are featured on the Hannibal greatest hits collection, which draws on their later work, but the better songs here are as good as their later tracks (hit singles aside). If you like their light smooth, croony songs, there are plenty of them here. BASS CULTURE...Dan Lilker

Слика
A genuine underground hero, the early Anthrax bassist who co-founded thrashers Nuclear Assaults and grindcore legends Brutal Truth has been in and out of heaps of bands throughout the decades. Famously, not long after his Anthrax exit, he linked back up with Scott Ian and Charlie Benante in the over the top, would-totally-be-canceled-today Stormtroopers of Death. ONCE UPON A TIME.....Cosmic Wheels

Слика
DONOVAN  Cosmic Wheels  (Epic,1973) - Folk rock       Starting with the title track, little of the new-style material worked, and the first six numbers here seem like the musical equivalent of a train wreck in slow motion -- the presence of such notable names as  Suzi Quatro  and others in the contingent of participating musicians notwithstanding. But the album ended up rescued, or at least partly salvaged, by the acoustic numbers that comprise most of the second side. Overlooking "The Intergalactic Laxative" (the less said about the better), the final third of this record is where any value that it did have, for old listeners at least, resided -- the delightful "Only the Blues" and the ethereal "Appearances," among the most beautiful recordings of his post-'60s career, satisfied longtime fans and could even have earned the artist some new ones, and they keep the record from being a total loss.  TRACKLIST : Cosmic Wheels                        Earth

ONCE UPON A TIME.....Jesse Winchester

Слика
JESSE WINCHESTER  Jesse Winchester  (Ampex,1970) - Folk rock     For me, a classic albums need to be both of its time and timeless. Jesse Winchester’s debut album meets this criteria on both fronts. Of its time because it spoke for, and resonated with, a disaffected American generation, tired and angry with their country’s involvement in a far off war and sympathetic to those with a more pacifistic view. Timeless, because over fifty years later it is still considered a touchstone of its genre, and a continues source of inspiration for all those fortunate to have discovered its undiluted magic. ONCE UPON A TIME.....O'Keefe

Слика
DANNY O'KEEFE  O'Keefe  (Signpost,1972) - Folk rock       This was O’Keefe’s breakthrough album riding on the back of the hit single “Good Time Charlie’s Got the Blues”. The chart breakthrough was never followed up. The album and the single, were his only dents on the charts but the royalties from covers (especial of “Charlie”) and a small devoted following have kept him in the music business. ONCE UPON A TIME...Hot Wacks

Слика
WACKERS  Hot Wacks  (Elektra,1972) - Rock       Hot Wacks is unquestionably the Wackers best album. Although at times a bit derivative of Abbey Road era Beatles (there’s even a side 2 suite), Hot Wacks is really a lost power pop gem. ONCE UPON A TIME...Tigers Will Survive

Слика
IAN MATTHEWS  Tigers Will Survive  (Vertigo,1972) - Folk rock       One of the 2 terrific records ex-Fairport Convention singer-songwriter Ian Matthews cut for the Vertigo label in the early 70s -- built around Matthews wonderful vocals and acoustic guitars, but with a tighter rhythmic backdrop the the typical post folk trope! The key here is warmth -- particularly in Ian's vocals, which carries over on some great little tunes! GUITAR WOLF.....Adrian Smith

Слика
With Iron Maiden’s guitar talent having long formed a trident with Dave Murray and Janick Gers, assessing each player on their own merits almost feels inappropriate when what we are hearing from each is in service to the whole.       But there is a common theme to Iron Maiden records; the best tracks have Adrian Smith all over them, and they make metal guitar a renaissance activity, light on its feet, foregrounding melody above all else. That perhaps comes from Smith starting out as a singer – sometimes it pays for your guitar’s phrasing to take its cues from the human voice. A.S.A.P. ONCE UPON A TIME.....Deluxe

Слика
HARMONIA  Deluxe  (Brain,1975) - Krautrock       If  Musik von Harmonia  mapped the range of everything Harmonia would ever do, 1975’s  Deluxe  used a more limited palette to paint a more beautiful picture. Working with master engineer Conny Plank and adding the deeper bottom end of drummer Mani Neumeier from Guru Guru, Harmonia refined their approach into a kind of shimmering pastoral dub.       Even when adding new wrinkles, as with the chanted vocals on the opening "Deluxe (Immer wieder)", Harmonia sound tremendously self-assured and comfortable in their sound.  TRACKLIST : Deluxe (Immer Wieder)                        Walky-Talky                        Monza (Rauf Und Runter)                        Notre Dame                        Gollum                        Kekse https://www.sendspace.com/file/s2pylw
